The medical field is littered with the remains of failed interventions. Why do so many initiatives and work products flop? One common reason is poorly worded, inadvertently insulting, or otherwise ineffectual communication between a developer and their target audience. This workshop is intended to provide clinicians, advocates, researchers, educators, and improvement teams with guidance and resources for making their content more accessible and inclusive. Members of the Emergency Medical Services for Children Innovation and Improvement Center (EIIC) will help participants explore components of the EIIC’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Communication Guide. Through a series of case examples and interactive exercises, workshop participants will learn about key considerations for choosing language and imagery, along with tools to increase end-product accessibility. By the end of the session, participants will gain a broad understanding of how language, imagery, and accessibility influence how different audiences engage with work products.
