The American Rescue Plan enacted by Congress this year provided vital financial resources to U.S. families in need. One of the policies enacted by the American Rescue Plan was the Child Tax Credit, which provides cash in the form of tax credits for children in the household to low-income families. In the U.S., tax credit policies are the predominant form of cash assistance to children living in low-income families. The Child Tax Credit has only received appropriations for one year. Continued advocacy will be required to maintain this funding for low-income families beyond this year. This hot topic symposium is designed to educate pediatric clinicians about how cash assistance in the form of tax policies can improve child health outcomes and health equity, the current and future research on this issue, and the importance of advocacy for this policy to improve child health,
This symposium will feature four speakers who will discuss the following:
1) The behavioral economics behind cash assistance policies to low-income families and the effects on child health outcomes.
2) Medical financial partnerships and the role of healthcare systems in achieving child health equity
3) Current and future research areas for cash assistance and child health outcomes.
4) Emerging policy and advocacy for tax credits and child health equity
This Hot Topic Symposia Scholarly Session is being sponsored by the Pediatric Policy Council (PPC).
