As there has been uptake of qualitative research methods in the past 10 years in pediatrics, there has been a need to pay greater attention to develop these research skills (Tenny, et al., 2021). An area that can be particularly challenging for researchers who are new to qualitative research is data management and analysis.
In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the management of qualitative data and basic steps for analysis that are fundamental to qualitative research. In qualitative research, coding is the process of identifying text passages or other media items and tying concepts back to the original research question. Applied codes can help organize data so that data can be analyzed in a structured way. In a series of activities, participants will be provided opportunities to work with data from previous research projects (including transcripts from focus groups and interviews) and be exposed to coding methods.
