The annual symposium will highlight and elucidate the mechanisms of bilirubin neurotoxicity and their clinical implications. A better understanding of predisposing genetic conditions that are associated with the development of adverse effects on the neonatal brain due to severe hyperbilirubinemia will help improve clinical practice to hopefully reduce the incidence of bilirubin neurotoxicity (acute and chronic bilirubin encephalopathy) in the USA and globally (discussed at the Bilirubin Club).
