Advocacy on behalf of child health and well-being is a primary function of the field of pediatrics. A 1904 quote (paraphrased) from founder of the American Pediatric Society, Dr. Abraham Jacobi, recognizes that “It is not enough to work at an individual bedside in a hospital…the pediatrician is a legitimate advisor to the judge and jury…a seat in the republic is what the people have a right to demand.” The incorporation of scholarship in the domain of advocacy is a vital component of the holistic and evidence-informed advancement of optimal child health. The assembled panel is comprised of subject-matter-experts who have successfully developed and defined advocacy work as a core element of their academic identities and leadership roles within the academic medical center.
