Although ambulatory pediatricians have extensive experience in fostering and studying community-healthcare partnerships to reduce inequities, there remains a knowledge-to-action gap in understanding how best to apply these principles in the inpatient setting. The application of community-healthcare partnerships in hospital-based settings represents an innovative strategy and needed skillset. In this session, hospital-based experts in child health equity will describe strategies to bridge this knowledge-to-action gap.
The first speaker will introduce concepts, define terms, frame the problem, and describe the importance of community-based, population health strategies. Next, three speakers will describe the unique lens with which they view child health equity and their approach to bridge the knowledge-to-action gap, developing and leveraging community partnerships to improve specific child health equity outcomes from the inpatient setting. They will discuss barriers and explain how strategies may be replicated in other settings and sub-specialties.
Speakers will use a polling system to engage participants. Two ambulatory pediatricians with expertise in child health equity research will serve as discussants, asking questions and highlighting important components and potential next steps. Last, audience members can interact with speakers through a traditional Q&A format. Participants will leave the session with a clear understanding of the current state of effective child health equity interventions and strategies to develop, test, and implement hospital-based initiatives at their institution. Content is relevant to the Clinical Research, Epidemiology and Health Services, and Advocacy Pathways and aligns with the PAS Meeting’s Strategic Plan (Goal #1) and core equity-related initiatives of the AAP, APA, SPR and APS.
