Wondering whether that summer job as a pipetter extraordinaire still belongs on your CV? Staring at the blank page that is your cover letter and hoping the words will magically appear? Feeling like you’re just making up the answers when trainees ask you about CVs and cover letters?

If so, this workshop is for you!

The vast majority of training in medical school, residency, and fellowship appropriately focuses on the development of clinical knowledge and skills for best patient care. When graduates are faced with the task of finding a job, however, the process of creating a strong CV and cover letter can feel intimidating at best and hopeless at worst. Our workshop seeks to provide trainees and those who advise trainees with practical knowledge and skills to guide the creation of effective CVs and cover letters.

Through a mix of interactive games, audience polling, and short didactics, our workshop will teach attendees how to craft documents that best highlight their accomplishments and qualifications. We will review optimal formatting and key content to include or omit from a CV, and introduce a novel framework for writing a cover letter to use in future job searches. Attendees will leave this session fully prepared to create and/or mentor others to craft top-notch CVs and cover letters that maximize chances of landing an interview!
