Nearly half of US pediatric fellowships offer global health (GH) experiences, and an increasing number of dedicated pediatric GH fellowship training programs have emerged. However, universal standards for fellowship training in pediatric GH within general pediatric and subspecialty fellowship programs are lacking. Beginning in 2019, a group of multidisciplinary pediatric GH educators began a process to accredit pediatric GH fellowship programs through the Academic Pediatric Association. The group’s mission is to advance the ethical and equitable practice of global child health by identifying standards for pediatric GH fellowships, providing guidance to training programs, and establishing a collaborative network of fellowship programs engaged in global child health. This interactive workshop is led by this multi-institutional group of educators who are designing this path towards accreditation. Our workshop is curated for pediatric GH educators, general academic pediatric and subspecialty fellowship program directors with an interest in expanding, standardizing, or creating GH fellowship programs. Participants will be equipped with the tools and knowledge needed to understand the pediatric GH fellowship accreditation process. Through self-assessments and small group activities, participants will appraise the current state of their GH offerings and set goals for further development of pediatric GH fellowship training opportunities. Participants will connect with other fellowship GH educators and be mentored by leaders of established GH fellowship programs. Workshop leaders are members of the national GH accreditation subcommittee and will facilitate small group sessions.
