Pediatricians are at the forefront of providing clinical teaching and curriculum development in numerous medical education programs across the country. These educators produce high-quality, cutting-edge curricular materials that should be shared with the broader educational community via published, scholarly products. One popular venue in which to share educational scholarship is MedEdPORTAL. MedEdPORTAL is a MEDLINE-indexed, peer-reviewed, open access journal of educational resources published by the AAMC.
After a brief introduction to MedEdPORTAL and the elements of a standard submission, our experienced team of medical education researchers will use the popular “Paper in a Day” workshop format to walk attendees through a practical, hands-on experience that will focus on developing an Educational Summary Report (ESR). An ESR is a rigorous, educationally focused manuscript that serves as the backbone of a MedEdPORTAL submission and mirrors the traditional manuscript format including an introduction, methods, results, and discussion sections. Attendees will be asked to bring examples of educational curricula they have developed for which they can begin to build portions of an ESR during the workshop under the guidance of experts with over 20 MedEdPORTAL publications. The workshop will close with tips and tricks for a successful MedEdPORTAL submission.
