The Academic Pediatric Association (APA) PHM Leadership SIG and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) SOHM Division Directors Subcommittee will be conducting a combined meeting at PAS this year. Chairs of these two respective groups have been working collaboratively over the last several years to address topics of shared interest. As Pediatric Hospital Medicine continues to establish itself as a board-certified specialty, many novel issues have arisen and the joint session at the PAS has been a consistent forum for discussion of important topics as well as critical networking. We have also been creative and collaborative with respect to best practices in Pediatric Hospital Medicine as it relates to clinical care, staffing, physician wellness and leadership in the COVID 19 era. This year’s combined session explore many issues that currently face Pediatric Hospital Medicine programs as hospitalist programs recover from the COVID pandemic and continue to define the future of the specialty. Fundamental to shaping our future is continuing to better understand how best to meet our workforce needs across the country, how to further diversity, equity and inclusion in our field, how to emerge strongly from the COVID pandemic, and how to approach academia in the post-COVID era. This combined session seeks to further explore many of these issues, share best practices, and begin to establish resources for hospitalists around the country.
