APA Qualitative Research Special Interest Group: Data Presentation in Qualitative Research: In this Special Interest Group (SIG) session, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about effective data management and data presentation in qualitative research. Results in qualitative research are typically presented with quotes to support findings and illuminate study participants’ experiences and perspectives (Sandelowski, 1994). We will discuss strategies for choosing a limited number of illustrative quotes from a large dataset that is within the space allotted for a given presentation format, which can be challenging. In addition to quotes, which are central to presenting study results, we will also explore graphic representations of data. If crafted appropriately, graphic presentations can significantly enhance the effectiveness of conveyed qualitative findings. In particular, we will present options for exploratory, descriptive and predictive designs. Options presented may include matrices, cross tabulations, tables and diagrams to report thematic analysis, content analysis and grounded theory. Following a didactic overview, pre-selected exemplary qualitative abstracts will be presented in the workshop to illustrate a variety of presentation examples. This may also be an opportunity to obtain feedback from the group. All participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas for enhancing presentations in qualitative research.
