Do you struggle with teaching your learners health literacy-informed communication strategies? Are your learners more familiar with technology than you? As clinician educators who teach a variety of learners in diverse settings, many of us share the struggle to keep up with the latest e-learning tools and how best to apply them for teaching communication skills. The purpose of this workshop is to discuss and practice using newer technology tools (MindMaps, Infographs, Jamboard, PowToons, EdApp, Voice Thread, Prezi and Articulate RISE) in health literacy skills training.
After spending time briefly reviewing health literacy principles and current practices/educational strategies, we will move into an overview of tech-pedagogy and associated e-learning tools. The audience will then be divided into small groups and be afforded the opportunity to practice using the tools and discuss which of the tools may be best used to teach communication skills. We aim to inspire participants with ready to apply e-learning tools that can be easily implemented. Once resources are provided, including a handout of information on different tools and the framework explaining principles for technology integration for effective small group teaching to achieve learner outcomes, participants will be divided into small groups to create modules collaboratively for teaching health literacy-informed communication strategies. These modules can then be taken to home institutions and immediately put to action!
