The world is changing. And fast. In healthcare delivery, the volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity is ever increasing. Amidst the change, how can you consistently focus on quality from the patient’s perspective and avoid burnout? Traditional hierarchical bureaucracies are no longer sufficient. Succeeding is about making connections and creating adaptive capacity. This session brings together how the U.S. military challenged established practices to respond to a rapidly changing environment and the current parallels in delivering quality care in a complex socio-technical system.
Building on this framework we will place particular attention on the perspectives and experiences of several key individuals: a retired 3-star General, and former Chief Operating Officer from the U.S. Army; a thought leader impacting the direction of the Solutions for Patient Safety’s Next Generation movement; a change agent tasked with mitigating maternal care inequities; and importantly, a care giver at the bedside managing day-to-day risk.
After a short presentation that illustrates resilient team behavior, each speaker will briefly introduce themselves and how they see leading through the lens of adaptability. The subsequent discussion will be in a Q&A format, focusing on how to achieve everyday success. This will highlight the need for better information exchange and creating connections.
We look forward to sharing our innovative performance, associated ideas and experiences, and the discussion that will follow.
No matter where you lead, leveraging adaptability helps manage the unexpected, mitigate risk, and increase the speed to better and safer healthcare. Are you designed to keep up?
