Optimal oxygenation is vital to the management of hypoxemic respiratory failure (HRF), pulmonary hypertension and respiratory distress syndrome (RDS in preterm infants and ARDS in children and adults). The ideal target range for oxygen saturation (SpO2) in the ICUs has been a subject of many studies and commentaries but continues to be controversial. In this state-of-the-art symposium, we will address similarities and differences in oxygen sensing, signaling and targets across the life span.
