Associate Professor of Pediatrics (Emergency Medicine)

I am a pediatric emergency physician and health services researcher with interests in improving care delivery at the intersection of the emergency department, office, and hospital and optimizing healthcare decisions made by parents and providers. Associate Professor of Pediatrics (Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics)

My interest in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics covers a broad range of topics--all which are related to the optimal developmental and behavioral functioning of the child and the family. I have spent the majority of my professional time focusing on the care of the fussy baby and developing new models of clinical care and support for the family.My expertise, leadership, training in developmental and behavioral pediatrics has many facets and include mentoring from Dr. T Berry Brazelton, Dr. Steven Porges, and Mr. Fred Rogers.

Kerri Z Machut

Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Neonatology)

As an academic neonatologist, Kerri is passionate about supporting infants and their families on their NICU journeys, both directly and through research and initiatives focused on improving family-centered care. She leads various initiatives in family support, telehealth, care of infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and transition to home, both locally and nationally through the Children's Hospitals Neonatal Consortium. Her research in this domain evaluates family perspectives and patient outcomes related to continuity of care. Sangeeta Schroeder, M.D., Masters in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and the Co-Medical Director of the Center for Excellence at Ann & Robert H Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Endocrinology)

My primary clinical focus is treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. I see patients at our affiliate institution, La Rabida Children's Hospital, and at our off-site clinics in Homer Glen and St. John Indiana. I also enjoy educating families and healthcare providers about weight management and obesity prevention.

As a former social worker turned physician, I am acutely aware of the way in which the psycho-social atmosphere contributes to the treatment of cancer in children, adolescents, and young adults. As a physician, I try to incorporate that view into my treatment of young people with cancer.

My expertise is taking care of critically ill and/or medically complex neonates, as well as developing and enacting specialized postnatal plans. I utilize and encourage a team approach to patient care which includes family participation. Donald Zimmerman

Professor of Pediatrics (Endocrinology)

I have had the opportunity to study problems in a number of areas of endocrinology and metabolism. Recent efforts have included studies of the evolution of the metabolic syndrome led by Dr. Xiaobin Wang. I have been continuing work on thyroid disease including thyroid cancers with recent work focusing on detection of thyroid cancer metastases. I have participated in studies of micro-RNA's in craniopharyngioma and in studies within Diabetes Trialnet.A number of pediatric centers are planning to collate data on treatment of thyroid cancers.
