Professor of Pediatrics (Palliative Care)

I have an enduring interest in medical ethics, especially ethical issues in pediatrics, end-of-life care, research on human subjects, transplantation, children with differences of sex development (DSD) and gender identify nonconformity (GIN), medical and surgical innovation, transplantation and conscientious objection to requested care by health care professionals. Rintaro Hashizume

Research Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Hematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation)

Dr. Hashizume's primary research interests in understanding of the molecular mechanisms, that affect the aggressive/ invasive biological behavior of pediatric malignant glioma and would accordingly reveal potential therapeutic targets for glioma therapy.

Lisa N Akhtar

Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Infectious Diseases)

I am a Pediatric Infectious Diseases physician and scientist. Research in my laboratory is focused on understanding how viruses infect and cause pathogenesis in the pediatric brain. The approach that we take is to identify clinical viral isolates associated with pediatric infection and poor neurologic outcomes, and bring these isolates back to the lab to assess the mechanism by which this occurs. We use viral whole genome sequencing, human and murine neuronal in vitro models, and murine in vivo models, as well as reverse genetics to understand clinical viral virulence factors. Brandi M Kenner-Bell

Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Dermatology) and Dermatology

Brandi Kenner-Bell completed her MD at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, where she continued on to complete her pediatrics residency at Texas Children’s Hospital. Dr. Kenner-Bell then moved on to a second residency in dermatology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL as well as her pediatric dermatology fellowship at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

Jennifer P Rubin

Associate Professor of Pediatrics (Neurology and Epilepsy)

In addition to caring for infants, children, and adolescents with a variety of neurologic conditions, I have specialized training and interest in acquired demyelinating diseases (multiple sclerosis, transverse myelitis, neuromyelitis optica) and genetic white matter diseases (leukodystrophies). I am the director of Lurie's Leukodystrophy Care Center, a multidisciplinary program developed to provide the best possible care to patients with leukodystrophies and their families at every stage of their disease. 

Matthew M Davis

Professor of Pediatrics (Advanced General Pediatrics and Primary Care), Medical Social Sciences, Medicine (General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics) and Preventive Medicine

I am general pediatrician/internist with deep interest and multifaceted activities in population-centered, timely health services and policy research within the context of community needs. I also have strong interests in interdisciplinary research that stretches over the lifecourse, and translational research that connects medical advances with community impact. My central areas of methods expertise are survey research and policy-focused analyses of health services data, and my areas of subject matter expertise include vaccines and health insurance.

Theresa A Laguna

Associate Professor of Pediatrics (Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine)

I received my MD from UCSF. I completed my Pediatric Residency and Chief Residency at the University of Washington, Seattle. I completed my Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship at the University of Colorado and received a Master's Degree in Clinical Science. After spending 10 years at the University of Minnesota, I moved to Chicago to join Lurie Children's to become Division Head. I am passionate about equity, diversity and inclusion. 

Rachel S Bercovitz

Associate Professor of Pediatrics (Hematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation)

Dr. Bercovitz is triple boarded in general pediatrics, pediatric hematology/oncology, and transfusion medicine.

Susan M Fuchs

Professor of Pediatrics (Emergency Medicine)

My research and clinical interests include topics in pediatric emergency medicine such as analgesia and sedation, pediatric resuscitation, prehospital (EMS) care of children, and education of those involved in emergency care of children.I am the Co-PI of the Illinois Emergency Medical Services for Children program, now based at Lurie Children's and have helped to establish prehospital pediatric protocols, and criteria to assure that emergency departments throughout Illinois are equipped to care for children (facility recognition).

Brandon Lee Parker

Instructor of Pediatrics (Hospital-Based Medicine)

After completing a residency in general pediatrics at Children's Memorial Hospital, Brandon joined the Pediatric Hospital Based Medicine division as a full time clinical faculty member. In addition to his clinical duties at Lurie Children's Hospital and at Northwest Community Hospital, he is also the site leader for the Convenient Care Clinic at Northbrook. Interests include resident education in hospital based medicine as well as research and clinical interests in pediatric sepsis, asthma, and graduate medical education.
