  • Congrats to Connie for graduating last week with her Masters in Science of Nursing, Executive Leadership and Administration! 🎉 Currently working for Vanderbilt Health as a registered nurse at our Clinical Research Center, Connie started with us as a medical receptionist. Since then, she's taken full advantage of our employee benefits to further her education and subsequently, her nursing career. Using our tuition reimbursement program and our loan repayment program for nurses, she's received her Associate's, Bachelor's, and her Master's degrees. Aside from the educational benefits, her favorite thing about working at Vanderbilt Health "is that Vanderbilt is very family-oriented. We treat each other like family instead of co-workers. If someone is sick, we take them food or have food sent. I also love that I get to motivate, mentor, and inspire others in my work here at Vanderbilt. They not only want to see employees grow within the company, but they take pride in your individual growth as well." Thanks for the love, Constance Dotye and congrats again on your major achievement! • What do organizations need to ensure they demonstrate the value of professional accountability? If you have robust professionalism programs, you might perform a return on investment (ROI) analysis to indicate the quantitative value of the program(s). Keys to accurate and effective benefits analysis pertaining to professionalism include: comprehensive ROI calculations, additional value sources, casting a long view and sharing successes. You can access the full article from the Vanderbilt Health Center for Patient and Professional Advocacy (CPPA) on the ROI of Professionalism (est. 3-min read) by clicking here: http://spr.ly/6046dEYLi Additionally, if you are interested in learning about the latest research and insights regarding professionalism from the CPPA, sign up for their monthly Insight Exchange here: http://spr.ly/6049dEYLl

  • Thank you to Tri Star Energy for your support of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt! The support of Tri Star Energy helps bring healing to countless patients and families through multiple care areas, including the Department of Spiritual Care. In 2015 McCall Alexander Carmichael (MAC for short) was a beautiful, happy, sweet 17-month-old who was “wise beyond his years,” said his mother, Brandi. Born with large dimples and chubby cheeks, he earned the nickname “Cheeks McGee.” After a tragic choking accident, a team at Monroe Carell tried everything to save MAC’s life, but the family lost him after three days. During that time, the spiritual care team did everything they could to help the family. “We are of Christian faith, and MAC had not been baptized. They did that for us. They helped us through,” said Hunter, MAC’s dad. The Department of Spiritual Care at Monroe Carell is instrumental in providing compassionate care at various stages of a child’s medical journey. Chaplains create a safe space for spiritual expression during what is often a challenging time in a family’s life. Additionally, chaplains play an invaluable role in supporting staff. Tri Star Energy, along with the MAC Carmichael Fund and the generosity of Fran Hardcastle, another longtime supporter of Monroe Carell, have allowed the Department of Spiritual Care to grow exponentially. This month, you can help Tri Star Energy support programs at Monroe Carell by visiting any Twice Daily, Sudden Service or White Bison location to round up your purchase.

  • Last week, we held the annual Blessing of Hands, a celebration initially created to honor the nurses at the Medical Center. Now, it is a way to honor all of the roles that go into making Vanderbilt Health a success. The tradition was introduced by the Rev. Raye Nell Dyer in 1999. She was the longtime chaplain at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and now serves as the chaplain of LifeFlight. “Our hands are symbolic of our lives and who we are,” Dyer said. “They are symbolic of our lives’ work. For many, this blessing is like a cleansing, a renewing. To be appreciated and loved and have it spoken to you is a powerful thing.” Click the link for an onsite account of the Blessing of Hands: http://spr.ly/6047j7NLc
